What is meaning of the options provided in
DOS2USB?
DOS2USB has several
options, which are helpful for different conditions.
INK SAVE MODE
This option is usually
selected by default. By selecting (tick) this option your
printout will become darker than normal.
USE BITMAP DRAW.
This option was
developed because some printers do not normally support the BOX
character. After providing support for this option in the code
page it became useless so it will be obsolete in future
versions. Please don’t tick this option.
PRINT ON FF
This option means “Print
on Form Feed.” The ASCII value for FF is 12 (decimal) and is
also known as the EJECT OR NEW PAGE CHARACTER. Form feed is an
end-of-page marker for the character mode printer. Many
applications use this character to tell the printer that a page
is over, so skip to the next page and start the printing on the
First line of next page. We have used it in the same manner for
some special requirement, if you tick this option, then it has a
special meaning: the printing will not start until it receives
this character at end of a page. If this character does not
arrive from your DOS application then DOS2USB will never print
that job, unless you remove the tick.
Don’t tick this option,
unless you face a problem and then only tick this option after
getting confirmation from us.
AUTO START.
By selecting this
option, our software will start automatically when Windows
starts. So use it as your convenience.
REDUCE LINE GAP.
Your DOS application is
designed to print on 12-inch paper. So when you try to print on
11.69 or 11-inch paper then some of the last lines will go on
the next page. By reducing the gap between the lines, all of
the lines will print on one page.
RAW PRINT
Do not select this
option unless we instruct you to do so. This option is for
trouble shooting purposes only.
DMP Print.
Many newer computer
systems do not have an LPT parallel port. Some users may attach
a parallel port LPT printer by using a converter cable with a
USB connection to the computer and a parallel (centronics)
connector to the printer. By using this cable, print jobs from
Windows applications will go to this printer, but your DOS print
job still will not print to that printer. DOS2USB can print to
that printer in GUI mode but it will print that job slowly
because it is sending dots instead of characters. If you use a
USB to LPT converter cable to attach a dot matrix printer then
his option will help.
Select this option only if
you are using a dot matrix printer or we suggest you to do so.
IF you are using a dot matrix printer then, and only then,
select this option and select your desired printer. Your print
job will go to that printer and you will get fast printing on
your dot matrix printer even if it is installed on a USB port
with a converter cable or installed on a network.
LEFT MARGIN
This option will set the
left margin in number of columns. All the printing will shift to
the right by filling the left margin with blank spaces. The
left margin can also be a negative number, as some pre-printed
stationary needs this.
TOP MARGIN
This option will set the
top margin in number of rows and your printing will shift to
bottom at that many lines.
FONTS
You can select any font
that you desire.
BASE CPI
This is the basis for
the calculating your print out. By selecting 10 CPI all print
jobs will print the same as your dotmatrix print job. By
selecting 12 CPI (This is the default option), all of your print
jobs will be reduced in width so that they can fit 8.27-inch
wide paper.
CODE PAGE
These are the code pages
for selecting the language characters for out put. This is
self-explanatory.
EXIT
This will close your
software, however it will ask for confirmation before exiting.
If you click YES then the DOS2USB utility will terminate.
Otherwise it will minimize to an icon in the system tray and the
program will remain active in the background.
ABOUT
This will displays the
About and Registration box.
SET DEFAULT.
By clicking this button
all of your currently selected options will be saved and every
time you start DOS2USB these options will be restored, including
the printer and its settings.
PRINTER
This button opens the
printer selection box. Select your desired printer, set the
paper size as necessary. If you change any settings related to
the printer, such as, Paper size, Page Layout (Landscape /
Portrait) etc then they will be changed by clicking this
button. IF YOU CHANGE THE PRINTER SETTINGS FROM THE CONTROL
PANEL THEN THESE SETTINGS MAY BE NOT APPLIED WHEN USING
DOS2USB. INSTEAD, USE THE PRINTER BUTTON IN DOS2USB TO CHANGE
THE PRINTER SETTINGS.
